Sand Based Pitches

Sand Based Pitches have been developed for sports that require enhanced drainage and are heavily trafficked. Excellent for training pitches and main pitches. The design allows for the rapid dispersion of rain into the Drainage Network due to the Porous nature of the Sand on top. These pitches are built by completing subsoil to the correct grades, installing Primary pipe drains at 5-7m centres, laying a layer of Topsoil 150-300mm deep, Mixing Specific Sand with the topsoil to increase drainage properties of the Topsoil, then installing the Secondary Drainage prior to the Final Sand Layer which can vary between 30-100mm thick. The Sand is then Fertilised and seeded. It must be remembered that the Thicker the Sand Layer, the bigger risk there is of the sand layer consolidating over time and reducing its ability to allow the water soak through it.
